The Judicial Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall has fined three students ₦5,000 each for violating the hall’s code of conduct on smoking within the hall premises.
The students involved, Mustapha Kamaldeen, Anyaechi Richard, and Ubong Alex Pius, were arraigned before the council in Suit No. ZHC/01/2026 on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
The sitting took place at the Junior Common Room (JCR) of the hall at about 10 AM.
The defendants were charged with committing an offense contrary to Part A, Item 3 of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall Approved Code of Conduct.
During the proceedings, the defendants pleaded guilty to the charge brought against them by the prosecution representing Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall.
The prosecution presented video and photographic evidence before the council. The evidence reportedly showed a crusher and smoking remnants linked to the offense.
Following the presentation of evidence and arguments from both sides, the Judicial Council delivered its judgment. The panel was led by Adeniyi C.J. as the presiding judge, alongside Agboola J. and Adebayo J.
In its ruling, the council ordered the three students to write letters of undertaking declaring that they would not engage in smoking within the hall again. The council also imposed a fine of ₦5,000 on each of the defendants.
The judges further warned that failure to comply with any part of the judgment could result in eviction from Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall.
The case is one of the disciplinary measures taken by the Judicial Council to enforce compliance with the approved code of conduct among residents of the hall.
