The Vice Chancellor of The University of Ibadan Professor Kayode Adebowale on February 16, 2024, commissioned the newly built Viva Laundromat in Obafemi Awolowo Hall. This follows the commissioning of the Laundromat in Mellanby last session.
The ceremony started with a speech of gratitude given by the Hall Warden of Awo hall, Dr. Afolashade Adewunmi and then a speech from the Vice Chancellor. It eventually ended with the official commissioning by the Vice Chancellor.
In attendance was the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration Professor P.O Olafika, The Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics Professor Aderonke, the Dean of Students and other dignitaries including the Hall Warden, Hall Mistress, the UI’SU executives, and the Awo hall executives. The building of the Laundromat was a way to give back to the society Mr Kazeem a representative from Aspira explained.
“Aspira being the manufacturers of Viva and other hygienic products is always looking for ways to give back to the society. And building a Laundromat in the University of Ibadan and other Universities is one way we have chosen to do this.’ he said.
To celebrate the commissioning, residents of Awo Hall were given the chance to wash their clothes for free throughout the day. The Laundromat would not only serve as laundry room but a place where students can buy Aspira products at affordable prices.
