UI DVC, Others, Become Fellows of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, University of Ibadan, Professor Peter Olamakinde Olapegba, on Tuesday, July 2 2024, has been inducted into the Fellowship of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor’s investiture was held at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, during the 18th Annual Conference and General Assembly of the Society.

The Registrar of the University, Mr Ganiyu Saliu, as well as the Provost of the Postgraduate College, Professor Ayodele Ogunjuyigbe were also inducted as Fellows of the Society.

With their investiture, they are entitled to use the suffix ‘fspsp’ after their names.

The Society for Peace Studies and Practice, according to its mandate, is a body of professionals and intellectuals committed to peace building, peace education, and capacity building of practitioners and researchers for sustainable peace on the African continent.

Speaking at the event, the former Chief of Defence Staff, General Martin Luther Agwai called for a collaborative approach in a bid to address the pressing issue of insecurity in both Nigeria and Africa.

Insecurity is a complex phenomenon driven by various factors, including poverty, unemployment, political instability, and social inequality” General Agwai noted.

The drivers of insecurity are often interconnected. Insecurity requires a comprehensive approach. Community engagement is critical in preventing and resolving conflicts, as it enables the identification and addressing of underlying causes of insecurity” the former Defense Chief added.
