SIGMA CLUB, UI Holds Opening Ceremony, Gets New Leadership

On Sunday, July 7, 2024, Sigma Club, University of Ibadan held its opening ceremony, to mark the club’s commencement of a new administration. 

The event which held at Seminar Room, UI Hotels, was attended by Sigma Club members, friends, and old members.

In his welcome address, the new Sigma Chief, Olalekan Michael Ajibola highlighted the club’s impressive achievements over the years.

He listed the successful hosting of the Roseline Etuokwu Sigma National Quiz Competition, which was held across the country, Sigma Health Outreach, Scholarship Scheme, among others as achievements by the club.

Emphasizing the essence of the Club as the oldest student’s club in Sub-saharan Africa, the Sigma Chief noted that it was concerned about a rich legacy of excellence, leadership and service to humanity. 

“The Club nurtures members to become real men and make an impact in philanthropy, academic excellence and social responsibilities” the Sigma Chief said.

“As the Sigma Chief, I pledge to build upon the solid foundation laid down by our founding fathers, our predecessors, while also introducing new initiatives directed to financing the welfare of our members and contributing to our environment,” the new Sigma Chief added.

Old Sigmite and Chief, Ibrahim Olanrewaju, who represented the Old Sigmites Association at the event, addressed the prestige of the Club.

He stated that the Chief and his cohorts are usually recognized first in any event, even if there are any excellencies at that same event. 

He emphasized that the organization is the oldest and surviving student’s club in Nigeria, raising future leaders, while supporting students with scholarships on campus, with its core focus on humanity. 

In his further address, the new Sigma Chief stressed on teamwork, student engagement, enhancing  members’ participation, and improving overall student experience as the new administration core vision.

The leadership of the club in the current academic session is Deputy Chief, Loyalist Owonifaari Toluwaleke; Chief Scribe, Loyalist OGBONNA Prince Onyekachukwu; Deputy Scribe, Loyalist Oladimeji Muheez; Financial Scribe, Loyalist Bamidele Taiwo.

Other non-core executives are; Publicity committee chairman, Loyalist Fijabi Oluwatobi; Sigma Treasurer, Loyalist Toyingbo Ayodeji; Investment and Special Duties committee chairman, Loyalist Ahmed Abdullahi; and Security Committee Chairman, Loyalist Okwowulu Clement.
