The Thursday Film Series, University of Ibadan, in collaboration with the Department of English, the University Media Center, and IFRA-Nigeria, is set to hold a special screening, which is also part of a global premiere of the documentary, Ebrohimie Road: A Museum of Memory, to mark the 90th birthday of professor Wole Soyinka, Nigeria’s Nobel Laureate, on the 11th and 12th of July, 2024, at Drapers Hall, Institute of African Studies, and at Ebrohimie Road, University of Ibadan, respectively.
According to the organization, “this documentary details aspects of Wole Soyinka’s life on the campus of the University of Ibadan in the 1960s, and covers his personal experiences during this period in relation to the Nigerian Civil War, his imprisonment for his antiwar activism, his release from his prison, and eventual exile.”
Speaking to IndyPress, Adekanmbi Azeezah, the Coordinator of the organization, said the organization is thrilled to present the documentary.
She stated that the film screening would be “a powerful tribute to Wole Soyinka’s enduring legacy and the significant history of Ebrohimie Road.”
“It is an honor to share this with our community on such a momentous occasion. This documentary not only honors Wọlé Ṣóyinká’s 90th birthday but also brings to life the significant moments of his imprisonment and exile. It’s a celebration of resilience and history that will inspire us all”, she further said.
The first screening will be held on the 11th of July, at Drapers Hall, while the second at Ebrohimie Street, on the 12th.
This is only part of a number of activities that will be held all over the country in honour of Prof Soyinka who turns ninety (90) on the 13th of this month.
