The annual football tournament, Seals Cup, organized by the University of Ibadan Students’ Union (UI’SU) has kicked off today, Friday, 26th of July, 2024, at the Old SUB pitch.

The tournament began with the Chairman’s Speech, given by the Chairman of the 2024 Seals Cup, Mr. Ayobami Ojeniyi.

The Chairman appreciated the management and the student community for its continuous support for sports over the years and urged the participating teams to adopt the spirit of sportsmanship.

“Football is more than just a game, it is a universal language that brings people together,” Mr. Ojeniyi.

“I urged the sportsmen to adopt the spirit of camaderie and sportsmanship since the game is not just about winning but to also celebrate the game of football,” Mr. Ojeniyi added.

Afterwards, the opening game between Philosophy and Veterinary Medicine kicked off.

The two teams are yet to break deadlock as at the time of this news report.
