The University of Ibadan Students’ Union has on Friday, 2nd August 2024, officially confirmed the receipt of two hundred and fifty signatories calling for a general meeting of the University of Ibadan student populace.
This was made known through an official statement signed jointly by the Union President, Aweda Bolaji, and the General Secretary, Ogundijo Dolapo Japheth.
In the statement, the Executive Council expressed readiness to convene the congress but only after normalcy returns to the country.
“However, we recognize the current national unrest due to protests across the country, and therefore, the congress is temporarily laid on the table,” the release stated.
It should be recalled that the President, Aweda Bolaji, had delayed calling for a congress, initially citing the need to verify all the signatories, after a committee had been set up to verify the signatories.
