The Ransome-Kuti Hall Executive Council has on Sunday, September 01, 2024 made a release addressing the events which transpired in the hall on August 31st 2024.
The release, which was signed by the Hall Chairman, John Kolade and the General Secretary, Moses Teminijesu, came after residents of Kuti hall were asked to pay fines of 2000 naira before they could leave the hall premises.
Recall that the University of Ibadan had given the students barely less than six hours to vacate the school premises. In order to enforce this, hall wardens of various undergraduate hostels including the Ransome-kuti hall had instructed students to vacate their hostels.
Due to the delay of some Kutites in evacuating the premises on Saturday, the hostel management began issuing fines to students who were still in the hall premises after the set deadline.
Following the act, the Kuti Hall executive council have made a release acknowledging the inconveniences the impromptu evacuation had caused the residents while also assuring students that the executive council was working to have the fines issued waived.
‘‘We also want to address the situation regarding the fines imposed on residents who were unable to leave the hall at the designated time. Please be assured that the Executive Council is fully aware of the circumstances and is actively working to mediate with the hall management,” the release reads.
“We are doing our utmost best to get a rescission of the hall management’s decision and have these fines waived for you,” the release stated.
The Executive Council called on affected students – Kutites or non-Kutites – who paid the fine to reach any member of the council.
