The Literary and Debating Society Faculty of Science, UI has revoked the membership and vice-president title of Oluwabukunmi Amoo for prioritizing ‘her hall constituency over her faculty’ as a speaker in the ongoing 2024 jaw war debate.
The revoke was communicated in a public release titled “Public Release from Faculty of Science LnD” on November 29, 2024, undersigned by the Faculty LnD President, Bayo Salaudeen.
The faculty LnD faulted Oluwabukunmi Amoo following its loss at the Jaw-war preliminary 1 round, which was set against the Faculty of Social Sciences on Thursday, November 28, 2024.
“It saddens us that after months of planning, preparation and consultation by the President of the Faculty of Science LnD Society, Bayo Salaudeen, all these were thwarted by the vice-president of the society, Oluwabukunmi Amoo. It saddens us that it ended our dream of making history yet again like we did in 2019,” the release read.
“On November 21st, she revealed to the president that she would be speaking for her hall instead at the preliminary round. The reveal was shocking to the president because the society line-up has already been made. Then, she submitted an obviously substandard speech to the president.”
“This left the President with just 2 options – we pull out of the Jaw war or he takes it upon himself. The president took it upon himself, had no time to fully internalize and he delivered the speech himself. That was the President’s first loss as a public speaker.”
The faculty LnD described the vice-president alleged action as such that “disregarded the society and brought shame to the society”.
“Owing to the aforementioned, the society hereby revoke the membership and vice-president title of Oluwabukunmi Amoo as of November 29 2024. She is no longer affiliated with the society,” the release concluded.
Recall that Amoo Oluwabukunmi, who spoke for Queen Idia hall was judged the best speaker in the first outing of the hall round held on Tuesday, 26th November 2024.
