The Law Students’ Society (LSS) of the University of Ibadan issued an apology to the Kegites Club of Nigeria, University of Ibadan, on Friday, January 3, 2025.

The apology was rendered in response to the Kegites Club’s official release dated December 6, 2024, which accused the LSS of making “unfounded aspersions” against the club, prompting her demand for a retraction of the allegedly defamatory statement.

In their apology, LSS UI, expressed its “deepest respect and admiration for the Kegites Club of Nigeria, its mission, values, and contributions to the University of Ibadan community and beyond.”

According to the Society, they “regret” the “misunderstanding” that has ensued, and that it was not the intention of the society to “denigrate or misrepresent the esteemed Kegites Club of Nigeria.”

Furthermore, the society explained that “the publication in question sought to educate law students on adherence to the LSS Code of Conduct, specifically Part A, Rule 4 of the 2024 (as amended) Code, which discourages activities that promote alcohol consumption, including drinking competitions” — activities which are against the ethics of their profession.

The society equally negated the existence of any provision that forbade members of LSS, UI, from joining the Kegites Club of Nigeria, UI. According to them, “no such provision exists in the LSS Constitution.”

While tendering their apology, the society noted that it was open to “open dialogue” or “meeting” to “strengthen the relationship” between both organizations.

The apology letter was signed by the President of the Law Students’ Society, Idowu Ademola Faith.
