Concerns are rising again about the persistent power outages affecting the University of Ibadan College Hospital (UCH) and its immediate student community.
A widely shared flier tagged #SaveABH called for help on Monday, one of the first days of the new year.
An IndyPress visit to the University College Hospital on Tuesday, January 7, 2024, confirmed the ongoing power outage, which has occurred in phases since the previous year.
A frustrated student, who wished to remain anonymous, appealed to stakeholders to reassess their response to the power crisis.
“Most students here at the moment are non-MBBS,” the student said.
“The situation remains unchanged. I’ve had to charge my devices elsewhere and sometimes visit the main campus. I’m tired.”
According to the student, the Students’ Union, led by Aweda Bolaji, has not proactively intervened in the current concerns.
Recall that the only statement issued by the University of Ibadan Students’ Union in November 2024 was compelled by a townhall of student-residents of Alexander Brown Hall, who had to decry the silence of the leadership of the Union.
