Indy Hall Eyesore: Hall Management Yet to Redress Months-Long Horrible Scene

By: IndyPress News Desk

Two months after IndyPress reported on the clogged waterway behind the C-Block axis of the Great Independence Hall of Residence, University of Ibadan, no positive intervention has been made to address the protracted concern.

Weeks before IndyPress’ November 2024 report, the C-Block axis of Indy Hall had a long-clogged waterway, which bred visible microorganisms while posing a threat to respiratory health.

Clogged with debris, pollutants, and sediments, the non-through gutter poses a threat of spreading malaria, dengue fever, and cholera through carriers like mosquitoes and flies, as IndyPress report had warned.

A student, who pleaded anonymity in a chat with IndyPress, lamented about the deplorable state of the stagnant gutter, which constantly pollutes the inhaled air.

“The odor is so bad,” the student said.

“No proactive effort has been made to address the stagnant state of the gutter. It breeds mosquitoes and affects students reading in C-Block.”

Despite IndyPress’ continuing efforts to bring the state of the C-block stagnant waterway to the attention of Hall Management, including Health Commissioner Nnamdi Ogbonna, nothing positive has been done.
