The Great Independence Hall of Residence Press Organization, University of Ibadan, has clinched the title of Best Campus Journal of the Year (2024).

The victory, according to the management of National Wire, establishes IndyPress “as the top campus magazine.”

IndyPress emerged as the winner on Friday, 14th February 2024, when the announcement was made.

The Best Campus Journal award is an initiative by the media outlet, National Wire, to recognize student publications across Nigeria for financial reportage.

The awards ceremony, organized by National Wire, celebrated the achievements of campus journalists excelling in business reporting.

Speaking at the award presentation for the maiden edition of the Campus Business Journalism Awards, Friday Ekeoba, General Editor of National Wire, noted that “the art of business reporting is as serious as business itself.”

“We decided to encourage campus journalists already trying their hands at business reporting, so we put up the call for entries to identify them. Initially, we were not expecting fantastic reports, and people were worried that we might not get any entries because campus journalists don’t write business stories. But we were determined to start from somewhere,” Dayo Emmanuel, Chairman of the awards and News Editor of National Wire, explained.

Reacting, the Editor-in-Chief of IndyPress Organization, Aduwo Ayodele, appreciated National Wire for the recognition while dedicating the victory of the press organization to all dedicated members, past and present.

“We appreciate National Wire for the recognition. It is a call to enhance what we do as an organization. This victory is dedicated to all the past and present members of IndyPress,” Aduwo Ayodele, the Editor-in-Chief, said.

The 40-year-old campus-based organization, IndyPress, is situated within the Great Independence Hall of Residence, University of Ibadan.
