Olanshile Ogunrinu has been elected as the 37th President of the Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan (UCJ-UI), on Saturday, February 15, 2025.

The Union serves as the umbrella body for all press organizations within the university.

A 300-level student in the Department of Communication and Language Arts, Olanshile currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of AFAS Press.

He secured victory with a total of 80 votes, against three void votes.

Following his election, Olanshile assured members of the Union of his commitment to its goals and objectives.

“When I first started my campaign for a strengthened UCJ-UI, it was just my vision. But with the overwhelming support I’ve received from so many members of this Union, it has turned into a collective vision—one shared by all campus journalists to build on the legacies of the past and propel campus journalism on this campus to greater heights.”

“Distinguished CJs, I am excited to be addressing you as the 37th President-Elect of UCJ-UI. From my experience in the Union as a reporter to being Editor-in-Chief of multiple LPOs, I assure you that I fully understand the demands of this role, and you will not regret entrusting me with this responsibility.”

“As President, I will be committed to the future of our Union and the growth of every individual who is part of it. We will invest in the development of every campus journalist because our Union’s true strength comes from the strength of its members.”

Olanshile also emphasized the need for teamwork among Union members.

“At this new chapter, I am also soliciting the support of every campus journalist, from all LPOs, to join me on this journey to build a stronger Union. In the end, my success in office is a collective responsibility. The Union is ours, and we must all function optimally to ensure its success.”

“To my fellow elected executives, I look forward to working together with everyone in the best interest of this Union.”
