Shortly after the UCJ’UI report on the Zik Hall warden’s election mobilization messages, the chairman of Hall, Fabiyi Oluwadamilare Caleb, removed UCJ’UI reporters from the ‘issues Affecting Zik Hall WhatsApp group’ and issued a warning regarding their accommodation prospects.
A screenshot from the group chat shows the chairman stating, “Any press wey dem born well make e dey find accommodation next year,” suggesting that Campus journalists covering the hall could face difficulties securing a bed space in the next academic session.
Another message from a group states “Una wey snitch, your end is near ooo.”
UCJUI reached out to Fadaca Oluwadamilare Caleb for comments but as of the time of this report, he is yet to respond.
The situation took another turn after the announcement of the election results, upon which, Covenant Odedele, popularly known as Visionary, was declared the winner and President-elect. Following the announcement, residents of Zik Hall forced UCJ’UI reporter out of the hall.
This raises concerns over press freedom and intimidation within the hall.
