The Katanga Republic Independent Electoral Commission (KRIEC) on Saturday, March 1 2025, officially announced commencement of the nomination process for the Great Independence Hall of Residence bye-elections.

According to a statement released by KRIEC, the sale of nomination forms begins on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 12:00 PM, with a strict submission deadline of Tuesday, March 4, 2025, by 1:00 PM.

The bye-election will fill key positions within the republic, including: Secretary of State (SOS), Defense Commissioner, Financial Commissioner, Health Commissioner, A1 Floor Representative, A4 Floor Representative, and C3 Floor Representative.

KRIEC emphasized that there will be no extensions for the sale or submission of forms.

To qualify, aspiring candidates are required to submit a copy of their previous academic transcript with a minimum C.G.P.A of 2.0 (100-level students are exempt), a copy of their current school fees receipt, a copy of their hall dues receipt, one passport-sized photograph, a copy of their student ID card, and a resignation letter from any previous political position within the hall, if applicable.

The release noted that the prices for the nomination forms are as follows; Secretary of State (SOS) ₦8,000; other executive positions: ₦7,000; while floor representatives costs ₦5,000.

KRIEC warned that payments for forms are non-refundable.

Speaking about the election process, KRIEC Chairman, Omachonu Kelvin urged all eligible candidates to participate and adhere strictly to the deadlines.

“We encourage all aspirants to take this opportunity seriously. The deadline is final, and no extensions will be granted,” Kelvin stated.
