Constituency members of Obafemi Awolowo Hall of Residence, University of Ibadan, have called for compliance with a court order that temporarily reinstated a disqualified member of the UI’SRC, Nice Linus.
The petition called for the immediate enforcement of the court’s decision.
In a letter addressed to the Professor Kayode Adebowale-led university management, the group of student representatives raised concerns over the Council Speaker’s overbearing actions and non-compliance with a Federal High Court order mandating the reinstatement of Hon. Nice Linus as Majority Leader and a member of the 12th Assembly of the University’s Students’ Representative Council (SRC).
According to the students, despite receiving the official directive, the leadership of the SRC, particularly the Speaker, Shoge Quadri, who has since refused to acknowledge the ruling or facilitate Linus’ reinstatement.
“This is a clear disregard for the rule of law,” the petitioners stated.
“The court order was communicated, yet no official memorandum has been issued to effect the reinstatement. Furthermore, Hon. Nice Linus has not been re-added to the official 12th Assembly group.”
“We find that the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Shoge Quadri, has vehemently refused to acknowledge the court’s injunction, failing to reinstate Hon. Nice Linus or add her to the official 12th Assembly group,” the petition reads.
The petitioners’ open letter, which is believed to align with the university’s commitment to justice and fairness, urged the administration to intervene and ensure adherence to legal directives.
“We strongly urge the university administration to uphold the rule of law by ensuring immediate compliance with the court order and reinstating Hon. Nice Linus without further delay.”
