The Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan, held a rally to commemorate World Press Freedom Day on Friday, May 2, 2025.

The Union, during the rally to the halls of residence, sensitized students about the significance of the press within the University and the world at large.

The Union particularly condemned the unjust victimization and all forms of attacks on campus journalists for speaking the truth, while advocating that the press should be provided with an enabling environment to thrive.

Speaking at the rally, the President of the Union of Campus Journalists, Olanshile Ogunrinu, enjoined the University to give regard to press freedom.

Mr. Ogunrinu stressed that the press is a catalyst for social development, justice, and progress, while emphasizing that journalism is not a crime.

“On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, we, members of the Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan, would like to enjoin the student body to give regard to the press. The press is the heartbeat of society. Journalism is not a crime, and those who practise it should not be victimized,” Olanshile Ogunrinu said.
