The Federal government is set to facilitate a 24-hour electricity scheme across federal and state tertiary institutions in Nigeria, IndyPress reports.
According to a press release by the Federal Ministry of Education, Nigeria, the plan for the launch of the uninterrupted electricity is meant to advance the students’ learning experiences.
Signed by Mrs. Boriowo Folashade, the Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Education, dated Wednesday, May 7, the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Olatunji, reaffirmed the federal government commitment to advancing human development through reliable and sustainable energy in the educational sector.
As contained in the press release, Dr. Maruf Olatunji assured that the federal government is constructing a mini-grid system from 1.1 to 12.5 megawatts across the federal and state tertiary institutions, including teaching hospitals.
The collaboration with the Rural Electrification Agency, Nigeria, will provide eight universities, including the University of Ibadan, Lagos, Benin, Nsukka, Obafemi Awolowo, Wukari, Ahmadu Bello and Dutse, 24-hour electricity.
