The President of the University of Ibadan Students’ Union, Covenant Odedele, has requested the ratification of three students as co-opted members of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC).

In a letter addressed to the UISRC and dated May 9, 2025, Tunde Onifade (Sociology), Boluwatife Grace (European Studies), and Afeez Suleiman (Law) were nominated for consideration and approval.

According to Odedele, who signed the letter, the three nominees “will contribute to a more robust representation of student interests and facilitate stronger synergy” between the Executive Council and the Students’ Representative Council.

The request appears to align with Article XVII (ii) of the Students’ Union constitution, which permits the Executive Committee to nominate up to five individuals, at least two of whom should be foreign students, as co-opted SRC members.

Since the reinstatement of the Union in 2019, no foreign students have been nominated or co-opted into the Council, IndyPress reports.

The three co-opted nominees were however not ratified due to their absence at the sitting of the Council.
