The Literary and Debating Society (TLDS) of the University of Ibadan held a press conference on Saturday, May 17, 2025.
The event took place at the Infinix Resource Center, focusing on plans for the 11th edition of Jaw War, the University of Ibadan’s largest debating competition.
During the briefing, TLDS President, Babatimehin Peace announced that the rally for the 11th edition of Jaw War will be held on September 13, 2025.
The first and second legs of the competition for the hall category are scheduled for September 16 and 19, respectively, while the faculty category matches are set for September 18 and 21, 2025.
The quarterfinals for both faculty and hall categories will take place on September 26, with the semifinals scheduled for September 30, 2025. The final stage of the competition is set for October 18, 2025.
The press conference unveiled the introduction of the Kayode Adegbayo Olomo Award, which will be presented to the Best Speaker in each round of the competition. Winners will receive a plaque and a cash prize of ten thousand naira.
The schedule for the first round of the hall category includes the following matchups: Tedder Hall vs. Awo Hall, Mellanby Hall vs. Alexander Hall, Bello Hall vs. Independence Hall, Kuti Hall vs. Idia Hall, and Azikiwe Hall vs. Queens Hall.
For the faculty category, the first-round fixtures are: Faculty of Science vs. Basic Medical Sciences, Economics vs. Clinical Sciences, Nursing vs. Public Health, Environmental Design and Management vs. Technology, Renewable and Natural Resources vs. Education, Agriculture vs. Dentistry, Arts vs. Law, and Pharmacy vs. Veterinary Medicine.
As the defending champions, the Faculty of Social Sciences will compete against the best loser from the first round.
