The Public Relations Officer of the Great Independence Hall of Residence, Oladapo Salvador, informed residents of Indy D-Block that there will be no power supply to their block until further notice.
The Indy Public Relations Officer said this in a broadcast signed by him on Wednesday, 21 May.
Mr. Salvador mentioned that the electricity outage is due to technical issues.
“We regret to inform residents of D Block that electricity supply to your block will be unavailable until further notice,” Salvador wrote.
“For residents of B Block, please be aware that work is currently ongoing to repair the faulty pumping machine and restore water supply,” he added.
In a recent interview with IndyPress, the Indy Hall House Secretary, Chisom Obinelo, explained that the student leadership of the hall has been in discussions with relevant authorities, including the hall management, Students’ Union leadership, and the Dean of Students, regarding the situation.
Obinelo assured the affected residents that electricity would be restored on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
“We have engaged in robust discussions with hall management and the student union leaders and have brought this critical issue to the attention of the Dean of Students,” Obinelo said.
“A comprehensive plan was set in motion to conduct repairs by 10 a.m. this morning. However, due to unforeseen challenges with the campus electricity supply, which persisted until this evening, we have rescheduled these vital repairs for tomorrow, May 27, 2025, at 10 a.m.,” he added.
Speaking on the weeks-long faulty pumping machine around B Block, Obinelo said, “Repairs were made to the pumping machine last week, but the board developed a fault this evening when power was restored.”
He promised Katangites the timely repair of the faulty pumping machine.
