Nearly three months after the first phase of installation, residents of the C-Block and D-Block constituencies at the Great Independence Hall of Residence are awaiting the installation of solar panels in their sections, IndyPress reports.
It will be recalled that solar panels were installed in the A-Block and B-Block areas of the hall in March 2025.
In an interview with IndyPress on March 22, 2025, the former Administrator General of the hall, Olaniyan Ibrahim, explained that the solar installation project was designed in two phases, with the second phase intended to provide lighting for the C-Block and D-Block areas of the hall.
As of press time, solar panels were yet to be installed in the C-Block and D-Block constituencies.
On June 9, 2025, Adedeji Peculiar, the Administrator General of the Great Independence Hall, told IndyPress that the delay in the solar installation was due to the absence of financial approval from the Students’ Affairs Division.
“In my last meeting with the Dean of Students, I made it clear that solar had not been installed in some parts of the hall. He told us that there is a particular amount that can be approved at once; that they cannot approve more than 10 million naira. So, we are waiting for another statement of approval for C-Block and D-Block,” Peculiar clarified.
