The University of Ibadan Students’ Union General Secretary, Segun Olowu Victor, has confirmed that over ₦2 million was disbursed to indigent students for the payment of their tuition fees on Friday, June 27, 2025.
Segun Olowu confirmed the bursary disbursement in an interview with IndyPress on Friday, July 4, 2025.
According to Olowu, the bursary scheme was strictly need-based. He said, “The bursary was need-based. We assessed your needs. To some people, we paid the whole amount, and to others, we paid part.”
According to the Students’ Union General Secretary, beneficiaries were required to present their student portals for verification. The Students’ Union then assessed each student’s outstanding balance to determine the amount to be covered.
He further stated that all payments were made on the spot in the presence of the Bursary Committee before the students’ departure from the Students’ Union Building.
He confirmed that “around ₦2 million” was disbursed to the selected students, adding that the list of beneficiaries had been compiled ahead of the bursary disbursement.
According to Olowu, a formal report detailing the disbursement process will be made public soon.
