The President of The Literary and Debating Society of the University of Ibadan, Babatimehin Peace, has stated that the 2025 Jaw War, scheduled to take place from 16th of September to 18th of October, 2025, will address issues affecting the African continent, IndyPress reports.
Babatimehin Peace disclosed this in an interview with IndyPress on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
He further mentioned that the new edition of the largest public competition in Sub-Sahara Africa will feature what he described as “a fiesta of finest logic and argumentation.”
According to him, a rally creating awareness for the event will be held on September 13, 2025.
He said, “Jaw War 2025 is going to be a fiesta of the finest logic, argumentation, banter and emotion. It will definitely be one for the history books. Just ensure you’re not left out of what is going to happen this year. I mean, it’s even already happening.”
The TLDS President assured that the upcoming public speaking event is intended to offer more incentives to the participants.
He explained, “This year, we are also intentional about making the competition more rewarding for our speakers. We have secured partnerships and sponsorships to improve both the experience and the prizes. For instance, every single speaker at every round of Jaw War 2025 will be catered for—because we want them to have the most convenient and supportive experience .”
“More importantly, we have made significant improvements in prizes. Beyond bragging rights, this year comes with tangible rewards. A major highlight is the Engr. Kayode Adebayo (Olomo) Best Speaker Awards, which will be given to the best speakers of every round leading up to the finals. Each comes with a ₦10,000 cash prize and a plaque, a big leap from previous editions when even the overall best speaker of the tournament got only a plaque.”
“And that is not all. At the grand finale, the recipients of Overall Best Speaker, Overall Best Speech, Overall Best Rebuttal, and Most Outstanding Speaker will each receive phones and cash prizes in recognition of their brilliance. In addition, the Best Speaker and Best Speech winners will enjoy one-month meal vouchers courtesy of our headline sponsor, Foodbolt. We are also working to bring back laptops for our interhall and interfaculty debate category winners. We are not done yet. there is more in the works,” he added.
