The University of Ibadan Students’ Union President, Covenant Odedele, addressed the Students’ Representative Council (12th Assembly) on the state of the University of Ibadan Students’ Union during the Council’s third ordinary sitting held on Saturday, September 13, 2025.
According to Odedele Covenant, the University of Ibadan Students’ Union Executive Committee had been committed to addressing issues affecting the welfare of the student body.
On academics, he stated that the Union organised tutorials for some students to prepare them for the first semester examinations.
Covenant Odedele, the Students’ Union President, also mentioned that the Union provided free transport for over 800 students to the University of Ibadan Distance Learning Center, Shasha, for General Studies examinations.
Responding to questions on the complaint made by the University of Ibadan sports captains regarding the neglect of their welfare, Covenant Odedele claimed that the Students’ Union Executives followed up the letter the sports captain addressed to them, adding that his administration made relentless efforts to address their concerns.
The President further said that the Union has implemented some initiatives to improve the sporting experiences of the student community.
The initiatives, he mentioned, include a timetable for sports facilities to make them more accessible to students.
He further disclosed that the University will be participating in the forthcoming NUGA Games.
Covenant Odedele claimed that the Union distributed examination packages to over 400 students of the University of Ibadan.
Covenant further mentioned that the Union facilitated a two-day leadership seminar for students to improve the quality of leadership among the student participants.
On Nelfund refund issues, he stated the Union had adopted the initiative of online refund application.
He further stated that the initiative only caters for students seeking refunds in the 2024/2025 academic session.
On the suspension of two students of the University of Ibadan, Aduwo Ayodele and Mide Gbadegesin, the Students’ Union President, Odedele Covenant, claimed that efforts to address the case of the concerned students proved abortive due to what he described as ‘lack of cooperation.’
Reacting, Honourable Segun, representing Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall of Residence, condemned the claim of the Students’ Union President, asserting that the Union ought to have defended the affected students regardless of their cooperation.
Honorable Segun further charged the Students’ Union President to ensure that Nice Linus, one of the three fee-hike protesters, receives a fair hearing over her pending disciplinary case.
Honourable Oludele John, representing the Alexander Brown hall, called the attention of the Students’ Union President to the case of the six cleaners in his hall, whose salaries, according to him, remain unpaid.
Responding, Odedele Covenant said that UI cleaners are not on the University’s payroll.
Some members of the 12th Assembly condemned the Students’ Union President for what they described as discrepancies in his report.
