The University of Ibadan Students’ Union Sports Secretary, Kolawole Victor, has confirmed that not all sports teams at the University were registered for the upcoming 2025 Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA) tournament.

Kolawole Victor disclosed this in an interview with IndyPress on Friday, September 26, 2025.

It will be recalled that the University of Ibadan female football team, UI Amazons, had earlier secured a 2-1 victory against LAUTECH Babes in a Pre-NUGA game held  on Thursday, September 25, 2025.

Later that day, IndyPress gathered that UI Amazons would not be participating in the main NUGA tournament due to non-registration, despite a 2-1 victory against LUATECH Babes,  fetching their opponent  an automatic spot in the tournament as Zone B’s representative for female football category.

Speaking to IndyPress, the Students’ Union Sports Secretary, Kolawole Victor, explained that the decision to register sports teams  for NUGA  was determined by the UI Sports Council.

“The Sports Council is in charge of the registration of teams for the Nigerian University Games, as it is the University that caters to the welfare of teams at both the Pre-NUGA and NUGA,” Kolawole Victor said.

Kolawole Victor further added that other sports teams at the University, including Basketball, Volleyball, and Handball male and female teams, were also affected, noting that they were aware of the situation.

He added, “Some teams were registered, some weren’t. Every team was aware.”

The Sports Secretary also mentioned that other sports teams at the University remain unaffected and are set to participate in the tournament. “To the best of my knowledge, yes. Every other sport is represented,” he said

Efforts to obtain comments from the Chairman of the University of Ibadan Sports Council, Mr. Kehinde Eyiomo, for more clarification regarding the development were unsuccessful as of press time.
