The University of Ibadan Campus Security Service, also known as Abefele, has arrested a student resident at the Great Independence Hall of Residence, UI, over an alleged theft of a phone, IndyPress can report.

The character, who was alleged of stealing a mobile device,  was arrested around 9PM on Thursday, October 9, 2025.

Narrating the incident, an eyewitness told IndyPress that the alleged theft of phone  occurred  at the hall’s cafeteria.

He said,”He stole the phone at the Indy Hall cafeteria but denied. People were like let’s check your bag, but he insisted. But the phone was later recovered from him.”

In an interview with IndyPress, Abdulhakeem Abdurrahman, the Floor Representative of B-4 Constituency, where the alleged character resides, admitted that although he was not at the scene, he knew the arrested resident to have once been involved in a theft case.

“Though I do not really know about this recent incident, I can tell that he once stole a person’s phone on my floor. On that day, he took the phone under the disguise of keeping it for the owner because the owner, Sola, was asleep, but when he was later asked about it, he denied picking it. The phone was later recovered from him by Abefele maybe after investigation,” Honorable Abdulhakeem told IndyPress.
