Members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union, University of Ibadan, embarked on a national protest on Thursday, October 9, 2025.
The protest began at Jaja Clinic, UI, where members of the Unions gathered before marching through the key areas within the University.
The demonstration, observed by IndyPress to be peaceful, was staged to demand the payment of long-overdue allowances, including arrears from the 2009 agreement and outstanding promotional entitlements.
IndyPress observed several placards bearing inscriptions, including, “We are major stakeholders in the University” and “Enough of the exploitation of non-teaching staff.”
Speaking at the protest, a member lamented what he described as the neglect of their welfare by the federal government.
He lamented,“We are begging the federal government to treat us with human dignity. We are major stakeholders in the university system. We cannot be written off.”
The protest is part of a broader national action by SSANU and NASU aimed at drawing attention to what they describe as persistent neglect and unfair treatment of non-academic staff in Nigerian universities.
