Untold Sanction: How Indy Hall Administrator General, Peculiar Adedeji, Was Found Guilty of Abuse of Power, Disregard for Legislative Council

The Legislative Council of the Great Independence Hall of Residence, University of Ibadan, has fined Peculiar Adedeji, the Administrator General of Indy Hall, the sum of ₦2,000 for abuse of power and disregard for the Council’s Disciplinary Committee, IndyPress reports.

The sanction was imposed during the Council’s ordinary sitting held on Friday, October 10, 2025.

According to a two-page Disciplinary report signed by Honourable Kareem Sanusi, Chairman of the Council’s Disciplinary Committee, and Honourable Abdulhakeem Abdurrahman, the Secretary, the Administrator General was referred to the Committee for failing to convene a General Meeting for the entire first semester of the 2024/2025 academic session.

The report further disclosed that when the Administrator General eventually called for a General Meeting in the second semester, it was done without seeking or obtaining the approval of the Legislative Council, a clear violation of the hall’s Constitution.

“The Administrator General of the Great Independence Hall, Adedeji Gbolahan (Peculiar), appeared before the Disciplinary Committee following a formal summons by the Speaker of the Legislative Council. After meticulous investigations, hearings, and deliberations conducted without prejudice or personal sentiment, the Council reached final and irreversible conclusions,” the report stated.

“The Administrator General consistently failed to call Congress for the entire first semester of the current session, thereby silencing the voice of the Hall and undermining due democratic process.

“When Congress was eventually convened in the second semester, it was done without the approval or consultation of the Legislative Council, showing a deliberate attempt to usurp power and flout established procedures,” it added.

The report also highlighted that while responding to the charges, the Administrator General allegedly attempted to evade responsibility.

“Instead of answering directly to the charges before him, the Administrator General attempted to employ unscrupulous tactics, thereby evading responsibility and undermining the integrity of the Committee’s disciplinary process,” the report  revealed.

Following the hearing, the Disciplinary Committee found Peculiar Adedeji guilty of abuse of power, inefficiency, betrayal of student trust, and gross disregard for the Hon. Gbadebo David-led Legislative Council.

The  Disciplinary Committee initially recommended a fine of ₦10,000 along with a letter of apology. However, upon deliberation during the Council’s sitting, the House resolved that the Administrator General should instead pay a reduced fine of ₦2,000 and submit a letter of undertaking to the Council within 48 hours.
