‎The Legislative Council of the Great Independence Hall, University of Ibadan, has addressed Katangites, the student residents within the hall, on the allegation of financial misconduct levelled against the hall’s Administrator General, Peculiar Adedeji.

Recall that IndyPress had earlier reported reported about the Council’s lack of transparency in handling the financial allegations such as  the mismanagement of JRC revenue and  unauthorized creation of separate account levelled against the Administrator General of the hall.

In a memorandum dated October 12, 2025, and co-signed by Honorable Gbadebo David, the Speaker of the Council, and Honorable Matthew Ugochukwu, the Clerk, the Council clarified that it “has not obtained sufficient evidence to substantiate these allegations,” which was why the the case was not addressed on the floor of the House during its third ordinary sitting held on Friday, October 10, 2025.

The Council further assured Katangites that the allegations are being investigated by the Disciplinary Committee of the House.

“‎The Legislative Council wishes to address the concerns raised by Katangites regarding the alleged opening of an unauthorized account and mismanagement of the Junior Common Room (JRC) funds,” the Council wrote.

“The Council hereby assures Katangites that, at this present, it has not obtained sufficient evidence to substantiate these allegations. Consequently, the Disciplinary did not present a report on the said issues, in adherence to the Council’s commitment to fairness and due process.

“Nonetheless, the Committee is actively pursuing necessary inquiries and investigations to obtain verifiable evidence that will provide a factual and credible basis for any subsequent actions or recommendations,” it added.
