UIDECIDES’26: Multiple Reports of “Sensitisation”, Vote Solicitation and Campaigning

There have been multiple reports of ongoing “sensitisation”, vote solicitation and campaign activities across student hostels as voting commenced in the University of Ibadan’s 2025/2026 Students’ Union election.

The election, conducted via the University of Ibadan Electronic Voting System, commenced on Friday, 13 December 2025, at 8:00 a.m., with voting credentials sent to the email addresses of accredited voters. According to the Students’ Union Electoral Commission, voting is scheduled to end by 2:00 p.m.

As of press time, several students confirmed receipt of emails containing their voting codes and login details.

Despite the commencement of voting, campaign-related activities were observed in some hostels. At Obafemi Awolowo Hall, individuals (male and female) were reportedly seen moving around several rooms in the hostel and making campaign statements such as “Be diligent, vote diligently.” “Be conscious, have you been conscious”

Also, at Obafemi Awolowo Hall, a search has been launched to find a supporter of Glory Salawu and an Idiate who was supposedly campaigning for her in the hostel.

At the time of filing this report, the electoral body had not issued an official response regarding the reported activities.
