Peculiar Adedeji-led Indy Hall Executive Council Denies IndyPress Use of JCR for Inauguration Event

The Peculiar Adedeji-led Indy Hall Executive Council, Great Independence Hall of Residence, UI, denied IndyPress the use of the hall’s Junior Common Room for its inauguration ceremony, which took place on Saturday, December 13, 2025, IndyPress reports.

IndyPress had earlier written an official letter to the hall’s Executive Council on Thursday, December 11, 2025, requesting the use of the Junior Common Room for the inauguration of its new Editorial Board.

Despite the letter being addressed to the Executive Council through the hall’s Secretary of State, Abiola Olaniyi, and acknowledged by him, IndyPress was denied access to the Junior Common Room on the inauguration day.

Letter sent to Indy Hall Executive Council through the Secretary of State.

IndyPress, resulting from the denial of the JCR usage, held its inauguration ceremony at its secretariat, a venue unsuitable for such an occasion.

Speaking on the reason behind the denial, Indy Hall House Secretary, Chisom Obinelo, told IndyPress that an issue came up which, according to him, necessitated the use of the Junior Common Room by the hall leadership.

In an interview with IndyPress on Sunday, December 14, 2025, the Administrator General of Indy Hall, Peculiar Adedeji, said he could not give an account of the incident.

He, however, acknowledged that he later found out that IndyPress was not allowed to use the Junior Common Room

While apologizing to the Press, he reaffirmed that IndyPress is part of the hall.

“I later found out that you guys did not use the JCR yesterday. I should have reached out to you to  ask what was up but I was so tired. I was not around yesterday,” Peculiar told IndyPress.
