Some final-year student residents of the Great Independence Hall of Residence, University of Ibadan, on Saturday, December 27, 2025, queried the Administrator General of the hall, Peculiar Adedeji, over the delay in the commencement of the 2025 Indy Hall Week event, confirmed non-payment of his hostel accommodation, failure to organize the Elders’ Party and claimed missing inventory jersey at hall’s Junior Common Room, IndyPress reports.
The final-year student residents, popularly referred to as Elders, raised the concerns on the hall’s Elders’ WhatsApp group, calling the Administrator General to accountability.
The thorough query, as observed by IndyPress, began on the Elders’ WhatsApp group as early as 8:00 AM in the morning and lasted until exactly 3:28 PM in the afternoon.
Responding to the complaints, the Administrator General of Indy Hall, Peculiar Adedeji, attributed the delayed the Hall Week event to what he described as “incompetence on his part.”
He further shared a graphic outlining a failed schedule for the Hall Week event.
He wrote, “First of, we plan to have a grand Hall week… Due to some incompetency from my part things didn’t go according to plans. But it was still delay not that we didn’t plan to have a Hall week event at all. We started with LnD last weekend thinking that we will follow suit through the week with subsequent events. I am very sorry. The whole thing is shifting from Monday till Wednesday.”
His explanation, however, was met with heavy criticism from some Elders, the final-year student residents of the hall, who argued that planning to hold the Hall Week event during the festive period (Xmas) was ill-timed, as many students had already travelled home.
Reacting, a resident wrote, “This your English dex vex me.”
Another added, “You wan do hall week for Christmas??”
A further response read, “You are a devil with angelic voice. You and your EXCOs will come and explain to all Katangites how you spent every dime. Na why E dey do dey escape…but this time Your cup is full, you all that are involved in this mess.”
As the Administrator General continued to apologise, another Elder responded, “Please don’t tell us you’re sorry. What’s the better solution eje? You can’t hold any party if you’re going to be fr cos no one will turn up. It’s so pointless.”
Further allegations were raised regarding the Administrator General’s accommodation status.
An Elder, who is part of the leadership of Indy Hall Elders’ Council, claimed that Indy Hall Warden, Dr. Adejumobi, had disclosed that Peculiar Adedeji had not paid his hostel accommodation fee and had also failed to provide hall shirts allegedly paid for by over 300 residents.
“The Warden said the AG hadn’t paid his accommodation and that he hadn’t provided the clothes that was paid for more than 300 katangites. As you can see this was beyond the Elders’ Council at this point,” he stated.
Responding to the claim, Peculiar explained, “In my defense, from the first semester I told the Hall warden of my Nelfund application and that I am waiting for refund from the school. Being a final year student, I can’t graduate and be expecting a refund from the school so it’s better they pay me and I convert it to accomodations fee which he agreed to.”
On the issue of hall shirts, he said, “Concerning shirt, we made a design since July or June and trend it showing Katangites what we are planning to do as Hall shirt, at the junction of production we had a town hall meeting and people were satisfied with the sample and we went on to continue printing until we had a congress and there were counter opinions.”
“This dragged for months before I went to meet Hall warden to intervene and this also took almost a month about roughly a month ago we were giving clearance on the shirt and production has resumed back. They have been printing and the first batch was brought last Friday or Saturday.”
He further added, “And when I was reached out to concerning the withdrawal I said it that reach out to the finance and SOS they will help with the process.Nothing was said to me about it again till the speaker reached out to me and I said they haven’t given us any official request to withdraw that’s why I have not notify the house.I didn’t delay elder council withdraw please.”

However, the Elder countered his claims, stating, “This is an outright lie because there’s no way you’ll tell me this and we won’t have worked on it, we don’t do complacency here. Within 3 days warden told us to inform SOS to write a letter on our behalf, because we had to bypass the ag because he had issues with the warden and that was delaying our withdrawal, that was friday, it was done that friday, given to finance, salvador & obinelo were also present, by monday Dr Esan had signed and financed has processed the withdrawal.”
“In another pov, why would you send us to the sos, it doesn’t make any sense, the ag is supposed to write a letter on our behalf but he couldn’t because he was running from the warden,” he added.
Other Elders also expressed dissatisfaction. One wrote, “Guy do you read what you are writing? Because school dey owe you you didn’t pay accomadation, the one thing that make you legal occupant??? Wait what’s the speaker doing while all these is happening i don’t understand.”
Another added, “The first part isn’t really an excuse for not paying for accommodation. A friend of mine also has issues with nelfund and he crowdfunded and we all assisted.”
“Which kain eye other halls go Dey look us when they hear say our AG attended all hall events but couldn’t host one In addition; he didn’t even pay his accommodation fee. Omo una just Dey stain person white,” he further stated.
Amid the growing tension, an Elder called for an emergency meeting involving the Indy Hall Executive Council, Team Altruism.
He wrote, “My fellow Elders… Especially the elders EXCOs, your presence is needed in this emergency meeting.”
A claim also surfaced in the group that the Administrator General was seen putting on the jerseys inventory placed at the Indy Hall Junior Common Room.
He noted,”@Peculiar I have a question. From popular observations, it was discovered that some of the missing high quality jerseys inventory from the JCR holdings were spotted on your body. In short you were wearing the inventory of the hall. How true is that AG?
Responding, the Administrator General claimed,” Until recently I have no idea that Liverpool or any other jersey were missing. It’s quite unfortunate that I happen to have a Liverpool jersey around that period.
IndyPress reached out the Administrator General, Peculiar Adedeji, regarding the allegations raised against him and other discrepancies, but the AG, as of the time of filling this report, is yet to respond to the Press.
