The former Editor-in-Chief of IndyPress Organization, Sonaike Peter, has been announced as the overall winner of the ‘Journalism category’ of Fifteen Outstanding Persons’ Award (FOPA).

The award was conferred by the Junior Chamber International Nigeria during the FOPA ceremony, held at Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan, on Saturday, January 3, 2026.
Sonaike Peter was nominated and shortlisted alongside Oludare Olufunmilola and Adeola Ifeoluwa, whose efforts also stood out in the category.

Reacting to the feat, the former Editor-in-Chief of IndyPress Organization, Sonaike Peter, expressed his gratitude to the Junior Chambers International, University of Ibadan, for the recognition, describing the award as a call and encouragement to prioritize responsible journalism, one that prioritizes public interest and amplifies the voices of the unheard.

Sonaike Peter is a recent graduate of the Department of Arts and Social Sciences Education, Faculty of Education, University of Ibadan.
To his credit, Sonaike Peter has won several journalistic awards, Including the UCJ Best News Reporter, Best Feature Writer, Best Investigative Writer, Human Rights Reporting and Overall Best Campus Journalist Awards.
The 2026 FOPA Journalism Award feat marks the third consecutive win of the category by IndyPress journalists.
Adebayo Abdulraman won the award in 2024, while Aduwo Ayodele clinched it in 2025.
