The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale has affirmed that para-counsellor training aligns with the University’s strategic vision of fostering a culture of care, inclusivity, and excellence.
Professor Adebowale made this known at the opening ceremony of the para-counsellor training programme for Supervisors in Halls of Residence and Student Advisers, organised by the Career Development and Counselling Centre (CDCC) of the University.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor described the training as critical to the University’s development, noting that empowering participants would help build a more resilient student body and a safer, more supportive campus environment.
“By empowering participants through this training, the University is strengthening its support systems to ensure a safer and more supportive campus,” he stated.
He further emphasized that the University is not merely a centre for academic instruction, but a community and a home away from home for thousands of young people navigating the transition into adulthood.
The Vice-Chancellor added that hall supervisors and student advisers serve as an indispensable first line of support, describing their positions as unique and privileged roles as trusted role models within the University community.
