The University of Ibadan is set to fully digitalised its accommodation application process for the returning students of the University, IndyPress reports.
The University of Ibadan Dean of Students, Professor Demola Lewis, disclosed this in an interview with IndyPress on Monday, February 9, 2026.
According to Professor Demola Lewis, the development is aimed at providing a panacea to the congestion experienced by student residents during accommodation allocation.
“We are introducing a digitised system that allows students to apply for accommodation from anywhere, without the usual rush and stampede around hall wardens’ offices,” UI Dean of Students, Professor Demola Lewis told IndyPress.
Professor Lewis further explained that the university is building a centralised accommodation platform that will operate through the UI portal, while noting that physical accommodation forms will no longer be in use.
“I know that some halls have distributed accommodation forms. However, the process is online right now, so henceforth, there will be no need for accommodation forms. It will be a purely online process,” he added.
Earlier on Monday, February 9, 2026, the Dean of Students issued a notice to returning students outlining requirements for securing accommodation. The notice identified University Health Service (Jaja Clinic) requisite form as a mandatory prerequisite for securing accommodation.
Reacting to concerns raised by students, Professor Lewis clarified that there would be no accommodation provision for returning students who do not possess a Jaja card.
“There are no provisions for students who are not registered with Jaja. Jaja Registration has been mandatory from 100 level, and students who have spent a year on campus without registering pose health and safety risks in emergency situations,” he explained.
He further stressed that Jaja Clinic registration is compulsory for students seeking accommodation in their respective halls of residence, but clarified that registration alone does not guarantee placement.
“Signing up with Jaja is an obligatory requirement, but it does not automatically qualify a student for accommodation,” Professor Ademola Lewis noted
The digitalised accommodation portal, according to the Dean of Students, will open on Friday, February 13, 2026, with applications to be processed online.
The Dean of Students, in an interview with IndyPress, disclosed that the digitised platform, which, according to him, was developed by UI students, and commissioned by the Students’ Affairs Division, will begin operation on Friday.
On allocation criteria, Professor Lewis noted that priority would be given to fresh students, final-year students, and those in the concessionary category, which include medical students writing the Medical Board examinations, as well as students with physical disabilities.
He also added that there will be a schedule for assigning rooms to 100 level students, followed by that of Final year student and students on the concessions categories.
He also stated that the hall warden of each hall of residence would work closely with the Students’ Affairs Division through the portal to ensure a smooth allocation process, while assuring the students would be able to know their room details before arrival on campus.
“One of the main reasons why we digitized is so that you can know your room number before you even get to the hall. So, the wardens would be working on the UI portal as well. You know this Jaja prerequisite is the first step,” Professor Ademola Lewis noted.
