Abdulmatin Gbadegeshin, a 300-level student of the Faculty of Law, UI, has emerged as Speaker of the Legislative Council of the Great Independence Hall of Residence.
An in-house voting which took place during the valedictory sitting of the outgone Honorable Gbadebo David-led 14th Assembly saw his assumption of the speakership position.
Other elected principal officers of the Council include Honorable Akeredolu Joshua as the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Olaniyan Abdulsamad as the Chief Whip and Hon. Bello Ibrahim, as the Clerk of the Council.
Before the dissolution of the 14th Assembly, the outgone Speaker, Hon. Gbadebo David, charged the incoming Assembly to be committed to its legislative duties.
He further urged the newly inaugurated Council to follow up on issues left unaddressed by the previous Assembly.
He emphasized the ooutstanding N10,000 fine levelled on Indy Hall Administrator General, Peculiar Adedeji, as well as the repairs of the jersey frames at the hall’s Junior Common Room
Delivering his Inaugural speech, the new Indy Hall Speaker, Honorable Abdulmatin Gbadegesin, appreciated members of the Council for his election as the Speaker, while assuring his commitment to carrying his legislative duties with diligence and fairness.
He further pledged to work closely with members of the 15th Assembly and relevant stakeholders to address what he described as inherited challenges, while fostering harmony and effective legislative governance within the hall.
