Oludele John Emerges Speaker of UI’SRC 13th Assembly, Others

Oludele John, a 600 level student of the Department of Medicine and Surgery, has on Saturday, March 7, 2026, emerged Speaker of the Students’ Representative Council, University of Ibadan.

His emergence as the Speaker of the 13th Assembly came after pulling a total of Seventy-six (76) votes against his opponent, Hon Jokomba Qoyum who had forty-seven (47) votes.

The in-house election was held at the SRC chamber, Student Union Building UI, recorded a total of 124 votes, which comprised 104 physical votes and 20 virtual votes.

Other elected principal officers of the Legislative Council are Honorable Obiachiamaka Joanna as Clerk; Hon. Sola-Alao Olamiposias Deputy Speaker; and Hon. Monidibidor Wallace as Chief Whip.

In addition to his constitutional duties, Hon. Oludele John also stated his plans for the UI’SRC 13th Assembly.

These include legislative capacity building and orientation, internal welfare and council cohesion; increasing SRC visibility and student engagement; revitalizing legislative committees; strengthening Executive–Legislature collaboration; diplomatic engagement with University Management, and transparency, accountability, and representation.

He also promised to modernize the 13th Assembly through digitization of legislative attendance, among other plans under his innovation agenda.

Speaking with IndyPress, Rt. Hon. Oludele John appreciated the house for his election, and promised the student community a legislative council that listens, acts, and delivers.

“I have to appreciate the representatives of different constituencies for the confidence in me to serve in this capacity. I promised, and I will deliver. What I promised is a legislative council that listens, acts, and delivers. That’s what I’m going to do. So, that’s my promise to UItes,” Hon. John told IndyPress.

Following the conclusion of the election of the principal officers of the House, a motion for adjournment was moved.

The sitting was officially adjourned to a later date at exactly 5:54 PM.
