Indy Administrator-General Decries Lawless Sale of Bed Spaces, Promises Sanctions

The Administrator-General of Great Independence Hall, Obinelo Chisom Folorunsho, has condemned the sale of bed spaces among residents, warning  offenders of possible sanctions.

This was disclosed in a broadcast message signed by the Administrator-General on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.

In the statement, he noted that the practice undermines the hall’s allocation system, especially given the high number of students seeking accommodation.

“As you are all aware, we are over 1,000 residents in the Great Independence Hall who applied for accommodation, and room access is limited. While you are fortunate to have been assigned a room, this privilege does not extend to selling bed spaces,” he said.

He added that the Hall Management strongly frowns on the practice and will not tolerate it.

“Students who are no longer interested in staying in the hall were advised to contact hall executives or the Hall Warden to facilitate proper reallocation of their spaces.”

The Administrator-General further described the act as contrary to the values of the hall community.

“Selling bed spaces does not portray the spirit of unity and brotherhood. Anyone caught selling or buying bed spaces will face ejection from the hall and possible disciplinary action by the Students’ Disciplinary Committee,” he added.
