Obinelo Chisom-led Executive Council Disregards Abdumatin-led Indy SRC Order on Hall Package Disbursement Delay

‘Team Sustenance’, the Chisom Obinelo-led Indy Hall Executive Council  has yet to issue a memorandum regarding its failure in the distribution of the hall merchandise, despite being mandated by the Indy Hall Legislative Council, IndyPress reports.

Recall that the Indy Hall 15th Assembly, led by Honorable Abdulmatin Gbadegesin, during its first ordinary sitting held at  Indy Hall Junior Common Room (JCR) on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, had mandated the Executive Council to issue a memo explaining how Katangites, the student residents of the hall, would receive their hall packages for the 2024/2025 academic session.

“Following concerns over delayed welfare items, the House mandated the Executive Council to issue a formal memorandum by 9:00 PM on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, detailing instructions for the collection of merchandise,” the resolution stated.

As of the time of filling this report, IndyPress can confirm that no memorandum had been issued by the hall’s Executive Council regarding its failure to distribute the  packages.

Recall that the issue regarding the distribution of the hall merchandise has remained a subject of deliberation since the Adedeji Peculiar-led administration, which was expected to oversee the disbursement but did not complete the process.

The 14th Assembly had also previously issued a directive concerning the distribution of the packages dated for February 10, 2026 to previous administration which also was not followed.

As of then, ‘Team Altruism’ assured the  residents of receiving their packages  upon resumption, noting that many Katangites had left the campus.

Four weeks into the current administration, residents are yet to receive a formal distribution update beyond earlier assurances.

Speaking with IndyPress, the Clerk of the House, Hon. Ibrahim Bello, stated that the Executive Council had neither released the memo as instructed nor submitted any formal notice to the House explaining the delay.

“On that same date that they were mandated to; no, they didn’t,” he said.

Responding to enquiries from IndyPress, the Administrator General stated that the delay in the comprehensive release was due to internal matters beyond their immediate control.

“The delay in the comprehensive release is due to certain internal matters that are beyond our immediate control,” he said.

Efforts to obtain comments from the Speaker of the Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Abdulmatin Gbadegesin, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.

Recall that the 15th Speaker of the Legislative Council had earlier been charged by the outgone Indy Hall 14th Assembly to address pending matters related to the distribution of the hall packages.
