The Seals Cup Committee University of Ibadan has announced the commencement of registration for the 2026 edition of the widely anticipated Seals Cup.

The development was disclosed through a broadcast message circulated by the committee on Sunday, April 5, 2026.

According to the announcement, the interdepartmental football tournament registration process began at 9 PM on Sunday, April 5, and will continue until the available 48 slots comprising 32 slots for the male category and 16 slots for the female category are filled.

Interested departments are required to pay a registration fee of ₦32,000 and ₦15,000 for the male and female tournaments respectively. This represents an increase from last year’s registration fees of ₦25,000 and ₦10,000.

Speaking on the development, a source from the committee stated that this year’s edition builds on previous successes while introducing adjustments aimed at improving participation and the overall quality of competition.

“The Seals Cup has established itself as the flagship interdepartmental football tournament within the University of Ibadan, built on a track record of strong organisation and competitive quality,” the source said.

“This year’s edition builds on that foundation while introducing key adjustments aimed at improving participation and the overall standard of play,” she added.

The source further disclosed that squad sizes have been expanded across both categories, while the female competition will transition from a 5-a-side to a 7-a-side format to encourage greater tactical depth and inclusivity.

Although the official tournament date is yet to be announced, the competition remains one of the most anticipated interdepartmental sporting events within the University community.
