Students of the Faculty of Education on Thursday, 3rd of October, 2024 voiced dissatisfaction with the present condition of the Large Lecture Theater in the faculty.
The students expressed frustration about having to write their exams under the poor lightning state of the lecture theater.
The students noted that after having paid a twenty thousand naira (#20,000) utility fee, the faculty should be able to provide a generator to supply electricity as a backup source.
Speaking to IndyPress under anonymity due to fear of repression, a student stated that the Faculty Management ‘should have arranged for an alternative power supply instead of allowing students to write their exams in the dark.’
“Exam was slated to hold by 8am. We entered the venue (LLT) where everywhere was dark due to the rain that fell, thought that generator will be put on so that we can write our paper and go,” he said.
“We were told that the issue will be sorted out not until they start sharing scripts for us and we were told to manage the situation. Phone touches were on so that we could see what we were writing, which was not even convenient for us”
“This is very bad of the University of Ibadan and I really hope something can be done to this,” he concluded.
An hour after the end of the exam, around 11:58 am, a student took to his whatsapp handle to condemn the development.
Sola (not real name) argued that the incidence did not speak well of the faculty, given that it has the understanding about how learning environment affects the learning experience of the learner.
“Writing an examination in a hall bereft of light doesn’t not speak well about the faculty that is acclaimed to know what education entails,” he said.
“A friend’s phone was stolen today again solely because the faculty management did not plan the whole thing well,” he added.
