Residents of Alexander Brown Hall, University of Ibadan have decried the continuous state of blackout in the hall.
The current phase of electricity outage, to which there has been no official response, has affected student residents, physiotherapy students writing exams, retail shops, among other utility users.
“Brownites are complaining bitterly about the issue and we have been trying to control the situation. You know when students feel neglected and cheated, it is hard to control,” a source told IndyPress.
A member of the hall leadership who pleaded anonymity noted that only a least amount of effort was on deck to address the deplorable yet lingering concern.
“The Hall excos and the hall warden have been only able to pump water for brownites using a mobile generator. Although it’s still insanely unbearable because the queue literally last from around 7pm to midnight everyday. The generator has broken down several times due to the work” another source said.
“We’ve reached out to the Dean of students and he has promised that the issue will be be resolved. It’s day 11 today and nothing”.
The impact of the continuing power shutoff fosters uncertainty as students have called for swift response.
“It is crazy because we legit can’t charge our devices. To use the toilet is difficult, the cleaners find it difficult to clean,” a displeased student noted.
“It seems like ABH doesn’t exist on the radar of the University management. An entire” department, physiotherapy started their exams yesterday. In darkness.”
“People are being sent out of the ward rounds because of rumpled cloths when they know fully well that these students haven’t had electricity for 11 days. As far as we are concerned, nobody has responded to our cry, no workings, nothing,” another student concluded.
