The Financial Secretary of the Great Independence Hall of Residence, Peleyeju Abayomi has promised to keep residents of the hall informed about opportunities for grants, scholarships and any other form of financial aid.

Assuring fundraising for hall week, the Finance Commissioner said he would be collaborating with other hall executives to fundraise for events and activities in the hall.
Speaking of transparency, he said there is provision of an accurate ‘end-of-year financial statement’, illustrating the utilization of hall dues.
When asked about how he would describe his leadership service last semester, Peleyeju Abayomi said, “my leadership as Finance Commissioner was defined by proactive initiative, financial responsibility, and a commitment to serving the residents of Great Independence Hall”.
“At the start of the semester, we efficiently issued approximately 900 hall due receipts, ensuring a smooth start for all residents”.
“To enhance financial literacy within the hall, I organized a well-attended webinar featuring a chartered stock exchanger, Mr. Taiwo Adekeye. The webinar was sponsored by various brands like Roqqu and Officialhogee, and provided valuable insights into financial markets and career opportunities, empowering participants with knowledge and connections”.
“It also included giveaway with prizes like shirts, jotters, and free mentorship in crypto and tech, further enriching the experience for attendees,” he added.
Speaking on the package, the financial secretary assured residents of the hall of timely distribution of books and shirts.
“Katangites should expect efficient and timely distribution of hall packages, which includes books and shirts,” he said.
“One major challenge involved transitioning to a new bank account with Access Bank due to security and accessibility concerns. This required strong organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure a seamless process during which all payments were handled manually in cash. I meticulously tracked all transactions and maintained clear communication with the bank throughout the changeover, ensuring accurate record-keeping and accountability. I also ensured the responsible collection of all hall dues, which were allocated to cover essential operational costs and planned improvements, with full transparency and approval from the legislative council.”
“When our communal television became faulty, I collaborated with the Administrator General and a team of dedicated Katangites to organize a successful crowdfunding campaign. We raised over 80,000 naira, demonstrating the power of community support in addressing shared needs. The procurement of a new television is currently underway.”
