The Secretary of State, Great Independence Hall of Residence, University of Ibadan, has listed ‘academic support initiative, brand partnership and support across offices’ as his contribution to the leadership of the hall.

Serving as Secretary of State has been an honor and a valuable learning experience. This role has allowed me to blend leadership, collaboration, and strategic planning to address the needs of our student-residents effectively. Last semester, I prioritized creating an inclusive environment, one where every student felt supported academically, socially, and personally. I also worked closely with various committees and student groups to address both immediate concerns and long-term goals, especially in areas of security, academic support, and community welfare. Navigating some challenges only deepened my dedication to serving and representing the voices of our hall community,” Olaoye David.

Reflecting on last semester, Olaoye David noted that he academic support and brand partnership were some of his achievements.

As the Chairman of the Independence Hall academic team with my coordinator Mr Adeboyejo Moses worked on our tutorials ensuring that students had access to high-quality academic support across core courses. This initiative contributed to improved academic performance and a supportive learning environment.Together with the Administrator General, I have been tirelessly committed to identifying and engaging with brands that can provide support in key areas within our hall. These partnerships aim to enhance our resources and improve the quality of services available to student-residents,” Olaoye David noted.

“As the Secretary of State, I have also made myself instrumental in supporting all hall offices to drive successful outcomes. This collaborative effort has strengthened the coordination and efficiency of our hall’s leadership team. Looking ahead, student-residents can anticipate a range of initiatives designed to enhance both the academic and social experience in our hall. This semester, I am focusing on building on last semester’s success, we’ll be expanding our tutorial offerings and introducing specialized workshops in high-demand subjects to further support students’ academic growth. During the course of this semester, I will launch new career development sessions, including skill acquisition workshops, to prepare residents for future professional opportunities.”

“I plan to establish a streamlined feedback system this semester, allowing residents to share their insights and suggestions. This will promote a sense of belonging, accountability, and open communication between students and hall leadership. To keep residents informed and engaged, I’ll be launching a monthly newsletter highlighting important updates, upcoming events, and student achievements within the hall. This newsletter will serve as a key platform for transparent communication and foster a sense of community,” the Secretary of State concluded.
