The Katanga Republic Independent Electoral Commission on Tuesday, February, 25, 2025 announced that four of the eleven candidates running for executive positions have been disqualified due to their failure to meet the predetermined benchmark, fifty.

KRIEC’s announcement was made by Omachonu Kelvin and Ayinde Samuel, Chairman and Secretary of KRIEC respectively.

Earlier, the Electoral Commission announced that scoring not less than fifty (50) was one of its regulations.

As a result, Olaoye David, 36.3; Nifemi Oluwatuyi, 46.4; Ojo Precious, 43.9; Onosanwo Adetomiwa, 48.4; have been declared disqualified.

“We wish to inform all katangites that this decision was reached on the day the KRIEC was inaugurated and all the candidates were informed before the press night,” KRIEC special release read.

Explaining its decision, the Electoral Commission noted that its action was in tandem with its commitment to a fair process.

“We maintain that it was not targeted at anyone, as we swore to ensure the best candidates are those that get elected into various offices,” KRIEC added.

“The KRIEC remains committed to ensuring free and fair elections,” KRIEC concluded.
