Eight months after, all winners of the 2024 SEALS Cup tournament have been finally compensated following their victories, IndyPress reports.
The compensation follows an IndyPress report dated March 28, 2025, which disclosed the delay in the disbursement of the 2024 tournament prizes.
In a recent interview with IndyPress on Monday, April 28, the Sports Secretary of MBBS, Chidinma Onyiuke, and former Sports Secretary of the Department of Arts and Social Sciences Education, Akinola Israel, confirmed that their departments which emerged winners in both male and female categories have been finally compensated for their victories.
Speaking to IndyPress, Chidinma Onyiuke, Sports Secretary of MBBS, explained that her department which emerged winner in the male category received a sum of one hundred thousand naira as a reward for its victory in the tournament.
“Yes, we have been paid last week Friday, 25th of April,” Chidinma Onyiuke told IndyPress.
In a separate Interview with IndyPress on the same day, Akinola Israel, former Sports Secretary of the department of Arts and Social Sciences Education, confirmed that a sum of thirty thousand naira had also been disbursed to the current Sports Secretary of the department.
“Yes, they paid the department Sports Director-elect 30k last week,” Akinola Israel said.
The winners’ compensation for their victories followed a prolonged delay of 244 days since the tournament concluded.
IndyPress previous reports highlighted the frustration of the winners, who had to wait for months before getting remunerated.
