The Union of Campus Journalists, University Ibadan, held a training session for campus journalists on Friday, May 30, 2025, at Indy hall Junior Common Room (JCR).
The training session was conducted for campus journalists in Sultan Bello, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Queen Idia and the Great Independence Hall Press Organizations
The training session addressed news, feature and investigative writings.
Addressing the news writing, Faith Adediran, the UCJ General Secretary, urged campus journalists to prioritize the timeliness of news reportage.
Mr. Faith described news writing as the bedrock of journalism, enjoining campus journalists to maintain objectivity in news reportage.
Eriomala John, the former Editor-in-Chief of Uimsa Press Organization and facilitator for investigative writing, stressed the significance of prioritizing multiple sources in an investigative piece.
He further explained that Investigative writing is meant to address public interests.
Ibrahim Fiyinfoluwa, the Editor-in-Chief of Sultan Bello Press Organization, explained that feature writing has no room for opinion, while charging campus journalists to capture concerned voices in their feature articles.
He further charged participants to hunt for feature story that is human interest driven, while describing journalism as a responsibility to the society.
“A person cannot be a good feature writer without being a good news writer, and also cannot be a good investigative writer without being a good feature writer,” Fiyinfoluwa said.
