The Executive Council of the Great Independence Hall of Residence, University of Ibadan, has issued a stern warning to residents against misusing the hall’s clotheslines and sleeping in the reading rooms.

Team Altruism made this warning in a broadcast signed by the Executive Council on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.

The Council emphasized that the reading rooms are strictly meant for academic activities and cautioned that any resident found sleeping there would face disciplinary action.

Team Altruism also condemned the improper use of clotheslines, noting that residents who leave their clothes hanging for extended periods are preventing others from accessing the shared facility.

“Let this serve as a final warning. The reading room is strictly for academic purposes. It is not a bedroom. At no point should anybody be found sleeping in the reading room. This act of indiscipline is a gross misuse of a shared academic space, and some of you are beginning to get on the Defence Committee’s nerves. This will not be tolerated further, and defaulters will face appropriate measures,” Team Altruism wrote.

“We have received numerous reports of individuals leaving their clothes on the lines for nearly a week, long after they are dry. This is a selfish act that undermines the purpose of the lines and prevents your brothers from using them. It is a sign of disrespect to the entire hall community.”

“While we understand it is the rainy season and drying can take longer, we implore you to please have your brothers in heart and remove your clothes promptly once they are dry to create space for others,” it added.
